The Environmental Protection Bureau (DSAP) announced in a statement yesterday that in commemoration of the annual international ecological event “World Environment Day” on June 5, the bureau will organise a series of activities.
Through a variety of initiatives, the campaign aims to encourage the public to adopt eco-friendly and carbon-reducing behaviours, collectively supporting the nation’s “Dual Carbon” goals.
According to the statement, the activities will involve joint participation by environmental protection departments in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), various public entities in Macau, community organisations, integrated resorts, and other enterprises and institutions, seeking to deepen environmental protection cooperation and exchanges within the Greater Bay Area, inspire citizens to reduce waste and plastic use, and embrace a green, low-carbon lifestyle, by working together to build a beautiful bay area.
The bureau pointed out that a series of activities will kick off on the afternoon of May 31 in Praça da Amizade, colloquially also known as Sintra Square. Public entities in Macau continue to promote a casual dress culture to reduce indoor air conditioning energy consumption and implement energy-saving measures, the bureau said, adding that private organisations, businesses, and community groups are also welcome to participate.
Meanwhile, the bureau said that on June 5 at 8:30 p.m., the “Earth Hour” campaign will take place, calling on not only public entities, organisations, and integrated resorts but also residents and businesses in general to turn off non-essential lighting for one hour to support energy conservation, fostering sustainable habits among residents.
