An event entitled Health Awareness Day* was held yesterday in Rotunda de Carlos da Maia, colloquially known as “Three Lamps (三盞燈),

Hosted by Caritas Macau's Overseas Labourer Service, which is one of the local Catholic charitable organisation’s social service units, and funded by the Macau Foundation (FM), the free-entry event was aimed at Macau’s non-Chinese community and hoped to raise their awareness and concern for health, while also helping them know more about potential diseases as well as conditions like high blood pressure, according to information at the event.

Among the activities featured were a women’s health seminar titled “A Guide to Regular Check-ups”, which was held in both Cantonese and English, alongside a game booth that featured questions themed around women’s health. There were also two health check booths where services such as blood sugar and blood pressure tests were offered, alongside weight measurement.

Moreover, a booth introducing WelAnser Centre was also set up. According to the information displayed yesterday, the social service unit was first established by the “Overseas Labour Service” in 2009, with “WelAnser Centre” formally getting off the ground in November 2016. Its services are mainly geared towards members of the non-Chinese community, particularly those in the Filipino, Indonesian, Nepalese and Vietnamese communities who live and work in Macau, as well as their children. One of their commitments is helping them adapt to living in Macau as soon as possible.

Among the services they offer are social casework, training courses in areas such as Cantonese and providing first aid and care for seniors, and holding activities that help with adapting to life in Macau, according to the Caritas Macau website.

According to the Overseas Labourer Service Facebook page, the event’s Indonesian title was “Hari Sadar Kesehatan”. More information is available on the page.
