The Orbis Raffle Charity Street Sale starts this weekend, with volunteers selling Orbis Raffles to raise vital funds for the non-governmental organisation’s (NGO) global paediatric sight-saving programmes and sustainable training initiatives in low- and middle-income countries.

According to a statement on Wednesday, three Orbis Raffle Charity Street Sale events are scheduled, the first being on Saturday in the surrounding area of Flower City Park and Central Park in Taipa, while an Orbis Booth and promotional display will also be set up at the entrance to The Affiliated School of The University of Macau.

The following day, the second charity street sale will take place around Avenida de Horta e Costa (高士德大馬路). A booth and promotional displays will be put up in front of Pui Ching Middle School, the statement said.

The last street sale event will take place in the Areia Preta Urban Park and Iao Hon Market, with the booth and informational display placed in front of the Luso-Chinese Vocational and Technical School, the statement said.

This year’s Lucky Draw features 97 prizes from 23 Gift Sponsors, altogether valued at 430,000 patacas. Raffle tickets are priced at 10 patacas each, with e-raffles also available.

Orbis Macau encourages members of the public to participate, highlighting: “Each purchase will add up to ensure more children and adolescents in need will have the opportunity to excel in life with healthy vision”.

The statement also pointed out how vision loss affects youngsters around the world in low- or middle-income countries, noting: “Globally, around 90 million children and adolescents suffer from various degrees of vision loss, with 90 percent residing in under-resourced regions where they have limited or no access to eye care services – from basic vision screenings and prescription glasses to specialised diagnoses and surgical treatments for eye diseases”.

Healthy eyesight is crucial for children’s overall development, learning, and growth, with Orbis Macau maintaining its commitment to ensure that the “long-term wellbeing of young eyes” can be safeguarded through their paediatric programmes and sustainable training.
