SJM Resorts said in a Tuesday statement that Mesa Bar at Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) has again garnered the Two-Star Bar award at China’s Cocktail and Spirits List Awards.

Being Macau’s only two-time winner of the prize, the statement said that the awards were established in 2023 by the Ganlanhuabao (橄榄画报) and Spirits & Bartender (烈酒与调酒师画报) Chinese media platforms and celebrate “excellence in the bar industry” across 60 cities in the nation.

The awards are presented across five levels: “Three-Star”, “Two-Star”, “One-Star”, “Must Drink” and “Quality Bars”, the statement said, with judges evaluating factors like menu design and bar concept alignment, and drink quality, and bartending technique.

The statement said that the bar was designed by German fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019) and features “a signature birdcage design interwoven with Eastern motifs”, specialising in cocktails blending “Portuguese and Macanese influences”. It is helmed by Frederick Ma (馬銘康), who was named 2024 World Bartender of the Year at the IBA World Cocktail Championship, according to the statement.

The bar hosts the “GET ON STAGE SHOW”, which the statement said invites a line-up of award-winning bartenders from around the world to showcase their craft. The third edition, which was held last night and continues tonight, with a recent separate statement from the integrated resort operator noting that this edition of the two-night event features “one of Asia’s most sought-after mixologists” Simone Rossi, who is from Italy and is based in Hong Kong.
