An exhibition featuring the works of local artist Sio Wan Yi (蕭雲藝) is taking place until June 28, at Room B06 of 10 Fantasia on Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro (瘋堂斜巷), according to a statement by the gallery.

The event is organised by the Macau Wu Jun Fu Yueju Opera Role Association (澳門五軍虎粵劇行當協會), the St. Lazarus Church Creative Industry Promotion Association, and 10 Fantasia, with support from the Cultural Development Fund (FDC).

The statement said that the exhibition, titled “After Insight”, shows 11 oil paintings. These paintings explore the Japanese idea of “Sabi 寂” which highlights the beauty of “imperfection” and “impermanence”. Through her work, Sio reflects on how “perfection is a human construct” that often leads people to have “unrealistic ideals”.

The statement also mentioned that the exhibition invites viewers to think about the unpredictability of life, where moments of “comfort” and “unease” exist together. Sio encourages visitors to accept the temporary nature of life: “Do not linger, do not halt. Move forward slowly, observe mindfully.” This message highlights the exhibition’s theme of “mindful observation” in a changing world.

Sio Wan, who was born in 1999 in Macau, has a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Literature from the University of Macau. She is a self-taught painter and began her formal studies in oil painting under Lei Ieng Wai (李英維) in 2017. According to the statement, her works have been shown in various exhibitions, including the “2023 Autumn Salon of the Art for All Society”.

The exhibition will run until June 28, and admission is free. 10 Fantasia is open daily between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., but closed on Mondays.
