Integrated resort (IR) operator Sands China yesterday marked the 10th Anniversary of its Local Small, Medium and Micro Suppliers Support Programme with an event held yesterday afternoon at The Londoner Macao in Cotai, where it also held the 2025 Sands China Local Supplier Open Day.

Yesterday’s activities were among those in a series of initiatives and events celebrating the 10th anniversary of the programme, which was created by the company in conjunction with the Macao Chamber of Commerce.

Sands China Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Grant Chum Kwan Lock noted in his speech that “over the past 10 years, Sands China has proactively launched various initiatives to support local SMEs, and we have consistently adjusted our strategies in response to the latest market changes and demands, putting innovative ideas into practice to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes”.

Chum also said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, “90 percent of our gross procurement amount went to Macau enterprises for three consecutive years. Last year, we recorded a gross procurement amount of 15.2 billion patacas, 84 percent of which went to Macau enterprises”

Moreover, Macao Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Vice President Hoi Lok Man said in her speech that “SMEs are the economic foundation of Macau. The flourishing development of Macau’s local SMEs is one of the city’s ‘golden accesses’ to economic prosperity”.

The ensuing open day, which was attended by 250 SMEs, featured procurement booths for categories including F&B, outside services and logistics, marketing, advertising and printing, technology and gaming products and services, hotel operating supplies and furniture, as well as facilities and construction. Moreover, there was also a booth for Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT)-certified local technology enterprises, along with a Sands Procurement Academy booth.

Yesterday’s Sands China statement noted that local SMEs, including DESDT Technology Enterprise Certification Programme-certified enterprises, were connected with Sands China procurement representatives.

Meanwhile, a training programme was also announced during yesterday’s event that is slated to be launched this year, aiming to equip local SMEs with marketing skills for live broadcasting on new media platforms.
