The “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025” is scheduled to take place this summer, with the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) issuing an open call for submissions for the “Local Curatorial Project,” a key programme within Art Macao 2025 and the “Preliminary Selection for the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia – Collateral Event from Macau, China”.
Exhibition proposals can be submitted until the afternoon of May 6, with selected submissions to be awarded a subsidy of up to 500,000 patacas to support organisational expenses, the statement said.
The statement noted that “Art Macao 2025” is themed “Hi, what brings you here?”. It will feature six sections: “Main Exhibition”, “Special Exhibition”, “City Pavilion”, “Public Art Exhibition”, “Local Curatorial Project”, and” Collateral Exhibition”.
Proposals by participating teams that include Macau residents must adhere to the event’s theme and include exhibitions lasting at least eight weeks between July 19 and September 21, with the maximum budget being 500,000 patacas, while they must also propose their own exhibition venues. A jury comprising experts and IC representatives will evaluate the submissions, selecting up to six proposals for participation.
Meanwhile, the statement said that curators of the selected proposals will be shortlisted for a preliminary selection for the “61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia – Collateral Event from Macao, China”, having the opportunity to submit their exhibition proposals once the theme is announced. The bureau, the statement added, will form a separate jury to choose a proposal that will represent Macau at this event.
The statement said that the exhibition proposals can be submitted to the Macau Museum of Art (MAM) by 3 p.m. on May 6. Proposals will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday during the period. More details including the Rules and Regulations, along with the application form, can be downloaded on www.icm.gov.mo.
One can contact IC on 8791 9833 or 8791 9814, or via email at artmacao@icm.gov.mo, for more information.
