The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a local man on Monday for drunk driving and evading responsibility, with his blood alcohol concentration standing at 1.63 grams per litre, PSP spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The 36-year-old suspect surnamed Ma is a businessman.
According to Cheong, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report early Monday morning about an accident that occurred on Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues (羅理基博士大馬路) near the entrance to Guia Hill Tunnel. The police officers arrived at the scene and found nine damaged traffic barriers, along with car fragments scattered on the ground. However, they did not see any car or driver involved in the accident. Using the citywide CCTV surveillance system, the police discovered that the car involved in the accident had meanwhile entered the carpark of a building in the central district.
Cheong noted that Ma went to a police station to confess on the same day. He admitted to evading responsibility and drinking alcoholic beverages while dining at a friend’s house before driving. A breathalyser test revealed that his blood alcohol concentration was 1.63 grams per litre, confirming his drunk-driving offence.
Ma has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drunk driving and evading responsibility.
