The first of the four-day International Series Macau presented by Wynn tees off today at the Macau Golf and Country Club.

The event is the second of 10 stops on the Asia Tour calendar. The tournament was also confirmed by The R&A (The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in the UK) as one of 15 events in 11 countries that form The Open Qualifying Series for 2025. A statement by the organisers noted that the leading three non-exempt players* will earn a spot at The Open at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland in July. A US$2 million (16 million patacas) prize purse is also provided.

A press conference was held at the Macau Golf and Country Club in Coloane yesterday, which was attended by the winner of last year’s inaugural event and reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion John Catlin from the US, Spain’s Sergio García, Patrick Reed from the US, and Hong Kong’s Taichi Kho.

Catlin remarked: “I am looking forward to this week. You know, I feel like I’m playing some good golf. I’m looking forward to getting out there and competing and trying to hoist this hardware again just to have a chance on that back nine** on Sunday, that’s my main focus.”

All the golfers attending said that were looking forward to playing here again.

Yesterday’s press conference also saw a ceremonial tee shot on the first tee and a cheque presentation of US$25,000 (about 200,000 patacas) by The International Series to the Macau Special Olympics (MSO).
