An event entitled “Lusophone Painters Exhibition” organised by Clube Militar de Macau is being held at the club’s Comendador Ho Yin Gallery.

The event is part of a series of exhibitions that the club has been holding over the past five years under theme of “Pontes de Encontro” (“Bridges of Encounter”) programme, according to information provided by the Association for the Promotion of Cultural Activities (APAC).

The term “lusophone” means “Portuguese-speaking”. When Portugal was still a Roman province, it was called Lusitania.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries with the aim of deepening cultural relations.

The exhibition aims to show a contemporary artist’s work from each of the Portuguese-speaking countries: Cristiano Mangovo from Angola, Jayr Peny from Brazil, Tutu Sousa from Cape Verde, Sidney Cerqueira from Guinea-Bissau, Suzy Bila from Mozambique, Fernando Direito from Portugal, Eva Tomé from São Tomé and Príncipe, Dulce Martins from East Timor, and Victor Hugo Marreiros from Macau. There are total 27 pieces on display this year, three by each artist, according to the information.

The programme is sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM), SJM, Sam Lei Group, and Commander Ng Fok, according to the information provided by APAC.

The exhibition runs until November 2 at the basement gallery in 795, Avenida da Praia Grande. It opens daily from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the venue must wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code.
