The Macau government announced this afternoon Macau's 42nd COVID-19 case, a 58-year-old local man holding a Hong Kong ID card. 

According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, the self-employed resident visited Bangkok between March 5 and 16 for work. 

He returned from Bangkok to Hong Kong on March 16 where he worked and stayed on his company's premises in Hennessy Road. 

On March 30, he travelled by bus from Hong Kong to Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. 

Upon arrival in Macau, he was taken to the Sheraton Grand in Cotai for 14-day quarantine and medical observation, based on the regulations in force at that time. 

The patient tested positive for the novel coronavirus today. He is undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of the public Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre. The statement described his condition as "normal". 

Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22. The "first wave" of 10 patients - seven tourists from Wuhan and three locals - ended on February 4. The "second wave" of patients began on March 15, mostly local students enrolled overseas who returned home.  

The government has set up about 3,000 quarantine rooms in 12 hotels.
