A 30-year-old local man attacked his father and elder sister with a pair of scissors in their home in Iao Hon district in a quarrel over TV programmes on Saturday night, the Public Security Police (PSP) have announced.

The injured father and his daughter were taken to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre for treatment. The Fire Services Bureau (CB) said in a statement yesterday that the two injured people, aged 66 and 32 respectively, had meanwhile been discharged from hospital.

In a PSP statement yesterday, the police said that the suspected attacker had been released but was subject to further questioning by the police.

According to a PSP statement on Saturday night, the police received a report about an assault caused by a family dispute in a flat on the third floor of Block 1 of Lai Va San Chun residential estate in Iao Hon district at around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

According to local Chinese-language media reports, a doorman of the building reported the case to the police after seeing that the male victim, who was bleeding, had run from his home to the ground floor.

PSP officers rushed to the scene, where they suspected that the 30-year-old man had attacked his father and elder sister with a pair of scissors, according to Saturday’s PSP statement.

According to a statement by the Fire Services Bureau on Saturday night, the 66-year-old man sustained cuts to his shoulders and arms, while his 32-year-old daughter suffered cuts to her back. Both were in stable conditions when they were taken to the hospital.

After an initial investigation, the police believe that the man was brandishing a pair of scissors during a heated argument with his family members over a TV programme. When the father and sister were trying to stop the suspect, both were injured with the pair of scissors, according to yesterday’s PSP statement.

According to the statement, the police have released the suspected attacker, who told the police that he is unemployed, after questioning him. However, he is subject to further questioning by the police. The statement also said that the man appeared to be in a normal mental health condition when being questioned.
