The play “Mr. Ma and Son” is showing in Macau this weekend. Directed by Fang Xu, this stage adaptation of Lao She’s (1899-1966) popular novel “Mr. Ma and Son” is presented by the BJAMC Drama theatre group from Beijing with an all-male cast that adds satire to the tone of the performance.

“Mr. Ma and Son” portrays the struggle of Chinese immigrants in London back in the 1920s, which the Beijing Daily described as the Chinese equivalent of “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austin.

The stage version to be performed at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) tomorrow and on Sunday is part of the 30th Macau Arts Festival (FAM) programme, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).
