Inflation rate hits 2.79 pct last month

Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.79 percent year-on-year last month, down 0.25 percentage points from the 3.04 percent growth in January, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said yesterday.

According to a DSEC statement, the increase was attributable to the higher cost of eating out and rising residential rents, as well as rising prices of motor cars, adults’ clothing and fruit.

The price indices of education, transport, and clothing and footwear grew “notably” by 5.95 percent, 5.06 percent and 4.48 percent respectively year-on-year.
