The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a local jobless man on Tuesday for punching and kicking his wife and squeezing her neck in their home after she asked him to lower his voice when berating his son as she needed to sleep after working a night shift, PJ spokesman Lai Man Vai said during a special press conference yesterday.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering multiple injuries in the domestic violence incident, according to Lai.

Lai identified the suspect as a 40-year-old surnamed Ng who told the police that he is unemployed. The 32-year-old victim works as a casino dealer. They got married in 2005 on the mainland and have a 14-year-old son. The family of three live in a flat in Coloane’s Seac Pai Van public housing estate, Lai said.
