Cabbies oppose bill only allowing firms to bid for taxi licences

2018-11-09 07:34     Comment:0

Macau Taxi Drivers Mutual Help Association President Tony Kuok Leong Son said yesterday that the local taxi sector wants the government to implement a taxi licence bidding procedure in which half of the new taxi operation licences are granted to companies while the other half are granted to individual bidders every time the government launches a tender for taxi licences.

Kuok made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending a closed-door meeting of the legislature’s 3rd Standing Committee which is reviewing a government-initiated bill regulating the city’s taxi sector, the outline of which was passed by a plenary session in April.

Since the passage of the bill’s outline, the committee has held numerous meetings to review the bill article-by-article, with some of them having been attended by government officials.
