Observatory mulls higher typhoon signal

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted the No.1 stand-by signal at 5 p.m. yesterday and said in a statement that there was a “fifty-fifty” chance that the No. 3 tropical cyclone signal would be hoisted today.

According to the SMG website, the tropical cyclone was located about 460 km south-south-west of Macau at 11 p.m., moving toward Hainan province.

According to the statement, the weather station predicts that the wind in Macau will become slightly stronger, the showers will gradually increase and there will be thunderstorms.
