Macau’s former chief public prosecutor Ho Chio Meng was sentenced on Friday to 21 year behind bars for over 1,000 crimes including corruption, fraud, embezzlement, organised crime, money laundering and unjustified wealth.

The court said in its judgement that Ho’s “behaviour was a severe violation of the law’s obligations,” adding that as a former prosecutor he “was supposed to know the law and abide by the law, and have strict self-discipline”.

Due to his former status as one of Macau’s principal officials, Ho was tried by the Court of Final Appeal. Consequently, he is unable to appeal.
