Coutinho, Leong seek re-election

2017-06-14 08:00     Comment:0

Lawmakers Jose Pereira Coutinho and Leong Veng Chai submitted a list of registered voters’ signatures they have collected to the Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Committee (CAEAL) yesterday.

The direct and indirect legislative elections will take place on September 17.

Speaking to reporters at the Public Administration Building in Rua do Campo, Coutinho, who has been a legislator since 2005, said he will be the first-ranked candidate while Leong will be ranked second on the list comprising 11 candidates.

Based on Macau’s proportional representation system which favours small groups, a list’s first-ranked candidate has a better chance of getting elected than his or her lower-ranked fellow candidates.
