Pearl Horizon buyers urge ex-secretary to keep promise

2017-03-22 08:00     Comment:1

Several dozen Pearl Horizon pre-sale buyers held a rally outside the Macau Science Centre in Nape yesterday, urging former secretary for transport and public works Lau Si Io, who is now the president of the Macau Science Centre, to keep his promise to solve the ongoing Pearl Horizon residential project dispute.

The residential project has been mothballed since the government decided in 2015 to axe the ill-fated development’s temporary land concession that had expired. The government has repeatedly said that the issue must be solved in strict adherence with the Land Law. The developer, Hong Kong-based Polytec, is suing the government over the matter.

Local media reports in December 2015 quoted lawmaker-cum-lawyer Leonel Alves as saying that Lau had told lawmakers in 2013 during a meeting of the legislature’s 1st standing committee there would be a solution to the concession once it expired.
