Revised bill allows casino smoking lounges

2017-03-15 08:01     Comment:1

The government has amended the draft version of the Tobacco Prevention and Control Law’s amendment bill, proposing to allow the city’s casinos to set up smoking lounges in gaming areas in line with the standards set by an executive order issued by the chief executive, the legislature’s 2nd Standing Committee President Andrew Chan Chak Mo said yesterday.

Chan also said the amended version of the bill proposes that the gaming operators will have to finish setting up smoking lounges in their casinos with such standards within a year after the law comes into force, otherwise the casinos would have to impose a blanket smoking ban on their premises.

Chan briefed reporters yesterday after a closed-door meeting of the committee, which is reviewing the bill article-by-article, at the Legislative Assembly (AL). No government officials attended the meeting.
