The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man from the mainland on Monday on suspicion of having cheated nine pawnshops out of HK$248,000 by pawning fake branded luxury watches, PJ spokesman Tam Weng Keong said during a special press briefing yesterday.

According to Tam, Chen went to a pawnshop in a casino resort in Cotai on November 29 last year and pawned a purported branded luxury watch for HK$40,000. After Chen had left the shop, a staff member discovered after checking more carefully that the “deluxe” watch was counterfeit, and reported the case to the Judiciary Police the same day.
