The Macau Federation of Transportation said yesterday that it would hold a protest on December 16 to urge the government to continue its policy of not allowing the employment of non-local commercial vehicle drivers.

Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said last Thursday, on the first of a two-day Q&A session in the legislature about his portfolio’s policy guidelines for next year, that, according to the findings of a study, there was no consensus in civil society about bringing in drivers from outside Macau.

The government had commissioned the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) to study the need for commercial drivers in various sectors. The study was completed in the first quarter of this year, according to Leong.
