The Macau Customs Service (SA) said in a statement yesterday that a patrol vessel was damaged when it was rammed by a speedboat carrying 5 mainland men and women, suspected of trying to enter Macau illegally, in the waters off Cheoc Van Beach (Bamboo Beach) in Coloane on Tuesday.

According to the statement, SA officers spotted the suspicious speedboat near Cheoc Van Beach in the early hours of Tuesday and immediately dispatched a patrol vessel to intercept it, while at the same time the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report from security guards at the Chuk Wan Hou Yuen residential building that a man was suspected of assisting people-smugglers in the area.

According to the statement, the six people, including the person picked up on the shore by PSP officers, are aged between 30 and 42. The man who allegedly rammed the speedboat into the SA patrol vessel was suspected of resisting arrest, coercion, disobedience, and criminal damage.

According to the statement, two of the suspects have been remanded in custody, while the remaining four have been handed over to the Public Security Police for deportation back to the mainland.
