The Judiciary Police (PJ) are investigating the suspected homicide of a man whose body was found in a guestroom of a hotel in Cotai yesterday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said in a message.

At around 17:42 p.m. yesterday, the statement said, the Judiciary Police received a call from the Fire Services Bureau (SB) informing them that a male body had been found in a hotel guestroom in Cotai.

After a preliminary examination of the body, the statement said, PJ officers found lacerations on the head, bruises on the neck and hands, and livor mortis on the body.

In medicine, the Latin term “livor mortis” denotes the settling of the blood in the lower portion of the body, causing a purplish red discoloration of the skin, typically occurring after death.

According to the statement, the officers found the cause of the man’s death suspicious and “immediately launched a serious crime scene examination and investigation”.

According to local Chinese-language media reports, a man was taken to the police station for questioning by the Judiciary Police (PJ) at around 10:40 p.m. last night.

Local Chinese language media also reported that at around 11:00 p.m., the Judiciary Police (PJ) took away several evidence bags which contained what appeared to be bed linen, adding that the victim was from the mainland. The police did not rule out that the case might have involved money-exchange activities, according to the reports.

The case, which has preliminarily been classified as suspected homicide, has been transferred to the Judiciary Police (PJ).
