The government should process kitchen waste by using maggots to turn it into animal feed, the Ilha Verde District Welfare and Mutual Help Association suggested yesterday. 

Addressing a press conference on the matter, Chan Cheok Sam, a member of the association, said he learnt how to breed the larvae of the oriental latrine fly in Beijing in 2003. Chan said the larvae could be used to produce animal food.

According to Wikipedia, Chrysomya megacephala, more commonly known as the oriental latrine fly, is a warm-weather fly with a greenish-blue metallic box-like body.
