Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng raised yesterday five aspects in a seminar about sharing the spirit of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) 20th National Congress, which was held in Beijing in October.

The one-day seminar, which consisted of a morning and an afternoon session for different participants, was held at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.

According to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS), at the joint invitation of the local government and the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO) of the State Council, the central government sent a delegation to Macau to address the seminar.

The keynote speakers were the chairman of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), Shen Chunyao, and the vice-chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Xie Fuzhan.

Among others, the seminar was also attended by the vice-chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Edmund Ho Hau Wah and the director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), Zheng Xincong.

The afternoon session, which was open to the media, included a speech by Ho Iat Seng, who said that studying, publicising and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC was the country’s “current and future top political task”. He urged people from all walks of life in Macau to “conscientiously study and comprehensively and accurately understand” the spirit of the 20th National Congress, with particular emphasis on five aspects.

According to Ho, the five aspects are:

First, to have a thorough understanding of the theme of the 20th National Congress and its significance to the development of the country and the nation’s two special administrative regions (SARs) – Hong Kong and Macau.

Second, to have a deep understanding of the great changes in the country over the past five years and the decade of the new era, including a series of strategic measures taken by the country, the breakthroughs achieved and a series of landmark achievements.

Third, to deeply understand the national fundamental guiding ideology in the new era as well as the major theoretical innovation achievements, and learn the positions, viewpoints and methods throughout them.

Fourth, to have a thorough understanding of the country’s missions, tasks, strategic arrangements and major arrangements for the new era and journey.

Fifth, to have a thorough understanding of the new concept, new thinking and new strategy of “One Country, Two Systems”, fully and accurately grasp the major tasks related to Macau’s work set out by the 20th National Congress, translate its decisions and plans into practical actions in the light of Macau’s actual conditions, continue to promote the successful and steady implementation of “One Country, Two Systems” with Macau characteristics, and make new contributions to the all-round promotion of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese-style modernisation.

Ho pointed out that in order to study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress, all local sectors must closely connect themselves with the profound changes in the domestic and international environment, understand the historical logic, theoretical logic, and practical logic of the country’s major policies and strategic deployments, and stand firm in implementing the goals and tasks proposed by the 20th National Congress, while fully understanding and mastering the congress, and implementing it in action.

The two sessions were attended by top local government officials, senior central government officials posted to Macau, community leaders, Macau’s NPC deputies and CPPCC members, as well as professionals, journalists, youth representatives, businesspeople and education sector representatives.

About 900 people attended the seminar’s two sessions.
