The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) urged the public in a statement on Friday to stop eating two flavours of Häagen-Dazs ice cream imported from France, which were possibly contaminated with a banned pesticide.

According to a statement by the bureau, the two flavours are “Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream” and “Cookies & Cream Ice Cream”.

The statement noted that the affected batches are as follows: “Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream” with net volumes of 9.46 litres, best before June 13, 2023; and 100 millilitres, best before May 20-21 and June 8-9, 2023;  “Cookies & Cream Ice Cream” with net volumes of 80 millilitres, best before May 22, 2023; 3 x 80 millilitres, best before May 23 and June 21, 2023; 100 millilitres, best before May 17 and May 29, 2023; 473 millilitres, best before June 11, 2023; and 9.46 litres, best before May 29-30, 2023.

The statement quoted the Hong Kong health authorities as pointing out that the two flavours of ice cream may contain ethylene oxide, which is banned in the European Union.

The statement said that these two flavours were sold in Macau, underlining that the bureau has already asked all suppliers and retailers to stop selling and to recall the problematic ice cream.

IAM staff members have been sent to inspect local shops and also to trace the circulation of the products, according to the statement.

The bureau urged people who bought the product to stop eating it.
