An opening ceremony for the Macau Government Tourism Office’s (MGTO) “Macao Week in Chongqing” will take place tomorrow, with the initiative aiming to attract visitors from the mainland to Macau, according to a statement from the office yesterday.

The statement noted that a roadshow will also take place in Chongqing’s Jiefangbei Square in Yuzhong district from today until Saturday. Prior to this, the statement added that a number of promotions conducted through various advertising mediums have already been launched throughout Chongqing, including a 3D animated commercial about travel to Macau displayed on the “Wings of Chongqing’ Naked-Eye 3D Screen” in Jiefangbei Central Business District and transit marketing, among others.

Meanwhile, the statement added that promotions worth over 100 million yuan (126 million patacas) will be showcased to Chongqing residents during the event such as travel offers on air tickets, accommodation and dining.

The statement underlined that MGTO also is providing information about the event on social media platforms such as Weibo, Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book), Douyin, WeChat, as well as on websites like Weibo and ctrip. Several “travel KOLs (key opinion leader)” also promote the event through conducting live streams on various platforms.

The statement pointed out that the event is organised by various entities such as the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance (GSEF), Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce and the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development.

Moreover, the statement noted that the coordinators include MGTO, Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and Chongqing Jiefangbei Central Business District Management Committee, while supporting entities include the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and the Sports Bureau (ID). Participation from various entities like Galaxy Macau, MGM, Air Macau, and Macau’s various small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are also noted in the statement.

Chongqing, which has a population of 32 million, lies some 1,000 kilometres northwest of Macau. The municipality is one of the world’s so-called megacities.
