Macau confirms 65th COVID-19 case, 2nd in 1 day, declares state of immediate prevention

Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced tonight the special administrative region's 65th COVID-19 case, the second case confirmed in one day.

According to a statement by the centre, the latest patient is a 27-year-old security guard from Nepal working for the Golden Crown China Hotel. 

The statement pointed out that after the centre had confirmed the 64th case earlier yesterday, a local resident from Turkey who had been in quarantine at the hotel, all the hotel's security guards, cleaners and other staff members underwent nucleic acid tests last night. 

The Golden Crown China adjacent to the airport is one of Macau's government-designated COVID-19 quarantine hotels. 

The Nepali security guard has been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre for isolation and treatment. The statement said he had light respiratory symptoms.

Meanwhile, the government tonight also declared a state of immediate prevention from midnight, according to a statement by the Civil Protection Operations Centre, due to the risk of a community outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease in the wake  of the 65th case.  

Meanwhile, the government also announced tonight that all people planning to leave Macau can only do so by presenting a negative nucleic acid test (NAT) certificate issued within the past 48 hours. The government also announced that all COVID-19 testing centres restarted their 24/7 operations at midnight. 

Meanwhile, according to local media reports, the police sealed off tonight Rua da Palmeira, where the Nepali lived with other non-resident workers, in the Inner Harbour's  Patane (Sa Lei Tau) neighbourhood.
