Pimp who ‘supplied’ the minor also nabbed

Two mainlanders were arrested on Saturday for pimping and commercial sex with a minor respectively in a hotel guestroom in Cotai earlier that day, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said at a special press conference yesterday.

The minor, her suspected pimp and her “client” as well as another sex worker and a male overstayer who was the “client” of the latter were in the room when the police arrived to investigate, according to Lou.

The 27-year-old pimp surnamed Xu told the police that he works as a chef. The two “clients”, both tourists from the mainland, are a 35-year-old waiter surnamed Xie who allegedly had commercial sex with the minor, and a 30-year-old internet worker surnamed Zhu.

Lou said Zhu had overstayed his entry permit three months and had used his casino bonus points to extend his room booking so that the hotel staff were unaware he was overstaying.

The two sex workers from the mainland are a 17-year-old jobless girl surnamed Lu, and a 19-year-old girl surnamed Zhang who told the police that she works as a surrogate shopper.

According to Lou, the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) recently ordered the Judiciary Police to investigate a pimping case involving a minor. The Judiciary Police confirmed that Xu, Lu and Zhang had entered Macau via the Barrier Gate checkpoint on Thursday evening and immediately put them under surveillance. PJ officers noticed that two young women walking around hotels in Cotai were looking for clients. The police also discovered that they were using two hotel guestrooms for commercial sex.

Lou said the Judiciary Police took action on Saturday morning and arrested Xu and the two women in a guestroom in Cotai. In the room the police seized 96 condoms and more than 300 business cards advertising commercial sex.

Xie and Zhu were also caught in the room. All of them refused to cooperate with the police.

According to Lou, the Judiciary Police believe that Xu had been pimping for at least four months in Macau, charging customers a “fee” of 1,500 patacas for each deal. Lou said the Judiciary Police do not believe that the case involved human trafficking.

Xu and Xie were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday. Xu faces a pimping charge while Xie faces a charge for having commercial sex with a minor, according to Lou.
