The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) cancelled the only summer camp involving a visit to cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) before the signup due to the current COVID-19 situation in the mainland, a DSEDJ statement said yesterday.

The statement was provided at a press conference after this year’s second plenary meeting of the government-appointed Youth Affairs Committee at the bureau.

According to the bureau’s Comprehensive Development of Students Division Chief Choi Man Chi during the press conference that there were around 32,000 people registered after being selected for this year’s summer activities. She also said that for some classes such as the make-up course and cookery course, the bureau has made arrangements to stay in line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) COVID-19 prevention measures. She also pointed out that more active classes such as the dancing workshop will be less intense and will provide more breaks for participants.

Cheong Man Fai, who heads the bureau’s Youth Department said that there was a presentation during yesterday’s meeting on the operation of the “Loving the Country, Loving Macau Education Base for Young People”. She noted that by the end of May, 42 primary and secondary schools, as well as three tertiary education institutes had visited the base in Nape, involving 5,000 students.

Cheong said that during the presentation, the bureau thought by installing a VR corner for a more interactive experience for the students it could help them better understand the historical background and key events that took place in China.
