Amidst a busy and fast paced life, do you ever remember to slow down and make time for your hobbies? Several art lovers from Macau are placing a special emphasis on the importance on remembering to do so, presenting their paintings in the exhibition “Leisurely Strokes” at the Rui Cunha Foundation gallery.
The ongoing event presents a collection of paintings tackling different subjects. Exploring the venue, exhibitiongoers will find paintings depicting the pastel-coloured buildings found in Macau’s city centre and brightly-lit integrated resorts, dreamy scenes and real-world locations like the rain-soaked streets of New York, along with flora and everyday items. Pets and scenes of nature also make special appearances.
Each piece on display sees the artists creatively present their subjects in vibrant colours. The works are predominantly oils, but one can also find ceramic paintings among them.
According to a joint statement by the gallery and the “Association of the Promotion of the Diversity of In Sang Artistic Expressions of Macau”*, the exhibitors all have a great interest in art and come from all walks of life, ranging from students and teachers to office workers.
Each of them has one thing in common: they continue to engage in art amidst their busy lives and routines. All had learnt to paint together, the statement said, and studied art with a China Academy of Art graduate. The exhibition presents their achievements and progress.
The statement pointed out that each finds solace in painting, which also serve as “a tranquil harbour for the soul”, noting that they each express their emotions through brushes and colours. “Through constant toning and sketching, they explore the essence of beauty and calm their restless minds”, according to the statement.
Organisers, as noted in the statement, hope that exhibitiongoers will feel the “warmth and healing power of art in these brushstrokes and hues”, while noting that, through passion, one can find joy in art in life.
“Each creation is a tender tribute to life and a lingering glow of their youthful passion, preserving gentle moments in ordinary days”.
One can visit the Cunha gallery at 749 Avenida da Praia Grande daily from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, being closed on Sundays. It is on until next Saturday.
*Literally translated, the association’s name means “Macau Association for the Promotion of Derived Diversified Art Forms”.
