Just before heading up to the observation deck of the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre, visitors will be greeted with a variety of digital artworks spotlighting Macau’s World Heritage sites, along with some characteristics of life in the city.
These works are displayed in the illustration exhibition “Timeless Macau – Visual Imprints of Macau’s World Heritage”, which showcases art by award-winning Macau-based illustrator Yolanda Kog (郝元春) that were created between 2021 to 2025.
From the pastel and vibrantly coloured to the more subtle toned, the pieces showcased include a series of pieces under the title “Mrs. Chung’s Day” that presents daily life through items and interactions, along with other works, namely artworks that depict both the bustling and the quieter scenes at UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites like the Guia Lighthouse, the Ruins of St Paul’s and A-Ma Temple, all featuring local characteristics and the artist’s signature style.
Through these works, the artist aims to tell Macau’s story and tackle the meanings of “World Heritage” as she interprets it through her warm art style, which, according to her artist’s biography, combines both traditional hand-drawing and digital techniques.
An exhibition statement further elaborated that with this exhibition, Kog dives into the “dual meanings” of World Heritage. The statement said that the exhibition “embodies the city’s collective memory in historic architecture and intangible cultural heritage, capturing the texture of time, folk customs and cultural roots through delicate brushwork. It also comes alive in vivid daily moments, portraying streets, human warmth and simple life from an intimate perspective”.
Kog also highlights in her exhibition statement that despite not being born here, she has a bond with the city and experienced many opportunities to create works about Macau.
Meanwhile, regarding her accolades, information at the gallery notes that Kog was the recipient of the Gold Award at the 8th CIB [China Illustration Biennale] National Illustration Biennale, while her work has also been shortlisted for international awards. In terms of the works she has done, exhibition information further pointed out that Kog has engaged in picture book creation, illustration design and independent publishing.
The exhibition continues through August 28 and is organised by the Macau Cultural Creative Industry Association. It is located at the Articulate Gallery located on Macau Tower’s T1 level. Exhibitiongoers will be able to view the artwork daily from 10:00 a.m. through 6:30 p.m.
